Magi 1 (4,5 ECTS credits)

Course code: D2002G
This 6 week university course at Stockholm Dance and Circus University gives 4,5 ECTS credits.

Entry Requirements
General entry requirement for studies at the first cycle with the exception of Swedish 1,2,3 and English 6 and
Specific entry requirement

  • 7,5 credits in circus or the equivalent
  • At least five years experience of magic on a high level

Selection
If there are more eligable applicants than places there will be a selection. The Selection is based on the submitted documentation from eligible applicants. The performance of Magic is assessed according to FISM-standard, minimum 50p (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques).

Language of Instruction
Swedish is the main language of instruction.

Aim
The aim of the course is to give the studensts tools to ba able to, individually and in a group, develop and challange their knowledge in magic.

Course Content
During the course the students work, individually and in a group, with different given themes. In lectures and seminars they will meet and discuss different ways of working with magic, focusing on misdirection and non-linear methods both on a practical and a theoretical level. At the end of the course the students present one of their routines in magic that they have created during the course.

Teaching methods
Tom Stone and Johan Ståhl are the main facilitators.
The course contains lectures, seminars, individual work and group work.

Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing the course the student is able to

  • discuss and in practise work with misdirection and non-linear methods
  • work with the process of brain storming – visualisation – presentation in relation to a chosen theme
  • discuss and elaborate with the use of neighbouring art forms in relationship to the practise of magic

Course Requirements
The student has to be present at least 80 % and participate in obligatory parts of the course like lectures, seminars and workshops. If the student cannot participate in the obligatory parts of the course they can make a complementary assignment. The examiner, course director and student will agree on the content of the assignment.

Examination
The examination is carried out through a final practical presentation.
In case a student fails the ordinary examination, the student has four more examination opportunities in order to pass the examination.
In special cases, for example, illness or injury, some parts can be examined through a special assignment. Each case is assessed individually in consultation with the head teacher/s and therapists (if applicable).

The course is replaced with D2012G Magic 1.

Overlaps another course
The course overlaps D2012G Magic 1 and cannot be included in a degree together with this.
