How good are your acting skills really?
You might think that you know what you are communicating on stage, but do you really know for sure?

Acting skills is not something that just appear when you need it. Instead, you have to train acting techniques just as much as your magic techniques – maybe even more – if you want to be good at it. This is a chance to enhance your acting.

This is a two day workshop where you will be guided through some basic actor’s training, like impulse training, focus, rhythm and tempo shifting. All with an eye on how it relates to magic performances.

Learning objective

On completion of the workshop, the student should:

• Have a better understanding of what they express on stage.
• Have the tools to enhance their stage presence
• Possess and understand some of the tools needed to practice acting skills and how to apply them in magic.

Instructor

Your instructor is Leif Olberius, a trained actor and magician who have had his own theater company. Leif is currently the main director for the experimental magic show Mystique, and this is two examples of his work:

Guidelines

In general:
Be sure to wear comfortable clothes since some of the training is quite physical. Also, please bring an extra pair of shoes that you can wear indoors.
Bring a pen and a notepad – you will learn things that you want to write down.
If you want to film or photograph the work you will be doing yourself, bring a device for that.
There will be no filming allowed during the actors training sessions.

Acting technique in a magic performance:
Bring one (1) magic trick or routine for a small stage or parlour, not longer than three minutes.
We don’t have space enough for illusions or big boxes.

Working space

The workshop will be held at Yxsmedsgränd 1 in Gamla Stan in Stockholm in a small theatre.

Limited openings

The workshop is limited to 8 attendees, and the spots tend to go fast.

Lodging

You will need to arrange lodging on your own, the working space is right in the centre of Stockholm so you will have no problem finding hotels or AirBNBs nearby.

Cancelation policy

If you cancel before March 3, you will get the full amount reimbursed. A cancelation March 3 or later, but before March 10, you will get 50% returned.
Cancellation on March 10 or later, no reimbursement.
