The learning process was very interesting and interactive, which was out of my expectation.
Through the exercises and interaction, I have made a few good friends.
Yes, There is an eye opener for me. The teaching method is very inspiring because nowadays it seems that we only can study magic by traditional lecturing. Sometimes I feel bored in this type of learning. in the one day workshop, We can share perspective on the issue and work together. It is more interesting. Friendship is also one of the best thing I have from workshop! Some peope you may know but not that familiar with, and now I have a chance to talk and work with them.
Tom made me rethink about how to behave when I am on stage. the Look-think-look theory makes even amateur magician looks filled with drama when applied on small routines. This is the most special thing I learnt from the workshop.
Actually I myself is a teacher in magic for a course in Hong Kong. It just so happens that independently hand out invisible coins to my students to ask them to improve miming and focus on the effect. To see that Tom also relies on the exact same exercise in teaching the concept makes me feel that I am on the right track! Another expected learning is how successful the course was in terms of impact, and therefore proving the theory that a fruitful class requires a lot more hands on exercises, instead of lectures, And the key is to have trust in the students to seek answers on their own. That is a great learning in terms of what magic is, how to learn magic, and how to teach it too.
