Challenges and stimulation
The course’s design, content and implementation stimulated me and/or challenged my previous knowledge in a constructive manner, and have had a positive effect on my artistic research & explorations.

Ja den atmosfär som skapas i denna ledda men öppna kurs, där det är så “hands on”, alltså göra och inte bara prata skapar ett kreativt driv som jag upplever är det största och det underlättar lärandet mycket.
I would like to believe that I had had similar attitude towards creating tricks that we were thought like giving a story to tell to engage the audience and use story as a method. However, without doubts I learnt a lot more good perspectives and the sparse knowledge were collected well and delivered in a good frame. Of course, it encouraged me to apply the principles I heard at the course in my future material.
This year I learnt that connection with the audience and communicating the narrative is what makes the performance engaging. This was much more valuable to me than the stated objectives and I’m not sure where else in the world I could’ve had this experience
My overall opinions are also slightly affected by the Kickstarter project that I was partially focused on and the absence on the last day. So instead of absorbing the experience and connecting it to my current magic practice, I was switching to my other magic related project.
Yes after all the lectures I got new ideas about how to change sertain aspects of my own magic. And especially seee thing from a new weiv point about how you should build a show.
Jag kände till mycket av innehållet tidigare, men som jag tidigte skrev fick vi möjlighet att verkligen förstå och känna hur det fungerar genom praktiska övningar. Många moment tvingade mig också att gå ur min ”comfort zone” vilket alltid är nyttigt och lärorikt. Jag kände hela tiden mig trygg och vågade släppa loss och test nytt. Det fanns en tillåtande miljö under hela kursen.
No doubt has effected my belief that I must wait for inspiration to create. I’ve learned, from Tom Stone, that “creativity is for amateurs”. I know now that I can JUST CREATE!
Trots tidigare erfarenhet av kursen så instämmer jag helt! Jag känner nu att tillvägagångssättet jag använder när jag tänker på nya effekter är en direkt reaktion på denna kursen. Att i år kunna utkristallisera det ännu tydligare och få eventuella oklarheter bekräftat hör att jag känner att jag växt som kreatör ytterligare.
After the course I signed up for polish gala show for magicians only, like a competition. I want to use this knowledge to create an act for this competition!
The knowledge and content (most of it) was not new to me, for previously mentioned reasons. But that just means I already knew what impact it would have. I feel I have a framework to work after when I work with my act, and I have an understanding of my weak points and how to adress them. I also feel stimulated to look over new material. And overall feel less like I’m walking in place in my daily magic work. Last time I took the shorter course I latched on to certain parts and made them a steady part of my work. This time I got reminded of the parts I had forgotten or not paid enough attention to.
I realised I can work better with a deadline and with a specific topic.
The tools I acquired were different from the ones I already use because of my background, and so they opened new ways of thinking.
More thank I could have ever known. I think this workshop will mark a major shift in my work for the better.
Sättet att jobba är mycket bra. Jag känner igen arbetssättet och det är mycket effektivt om man vill applicera teoretisk kunskap praktiskt och man kommer väldigt långt på kort tid med övningarna även om de ibland känns omöjliga.
Ja! Upplägget med ganska tuffa övningar med stor tidspress satte verkligen igång en motor jag inte trodde fanns.
The course definitely inspired me and reignited my passion for performing.
I feel that now I have at toolkit that I can, and will, use to make my magic a lot more thought through, and hopefully more enjoyable to my spectators.
The course design is great. There is a great balance between theory and actually practical appliance. Through working with others as we are not normally used to doing in this industry we learn and share each others knowledge on magic outside of the tutors teaching. We essentially teach each other also. Extra learning. I’m now interested in why certain tools work in magic and why they do not and am willing to explore them fully in my own work and future performance. Across the course we developed a mutual language of talking about technique and applying it to our magic which is essential and did not exist in our artform before this course – thanks to this course it does. Providing words to these techniques allows us to put a name onto what it is magically we are trying to achieve and if we work with others we can work towards the same goal. It allows us to cohesively work with others, share ideas and implement them.
Exercises were a challenge for me, positive one. Without the pressure I would never acquire the knowledge and principles learns from the course. There is a saying… having read the book doesn’t automatically mean you understand the book. I hope you see my point 🙂
Ja, Lite panik när man får grupp övningarna men mycket tillfredställande när man löst dom.
Saker som jag trodde att jag hade full förståelse av har jag fått överge och jag har tränat in ett nytt beteendemönster. Saker som jag inte visste om har jag sett och upplevt av egen kraft att det fungerar – och bättre betyg kan man inte få…
Yes definitely would like to get more feedback and another challenge for our group work or individual work to bring it even to the next level. I would like to work on one piece longer if it’s possible. At the same time I liked the variety of excercises
The course was very challenging for me, especially the performance aspect of it, as this is by far the weakest part of my act. In the exercises we came up with ideas I could’ve never come up with by myself.

I really feel that my knowledge during the course has really deepened.
