Value
What is the most important things I brought with me home from this course?
Comments
Progress made if you are not afraid to have a mistake. Every idea is a good idea. Study other magicians, do not invent bicycle. If you are being honest to your self you will be original, because no one can be you or have your approach to magic.
The ability to develop new material and to have the tools to improve what I already have.-
Passion
The single most important piece is “there are not bad ideas, they are just ideas”. If and when we put the work in, we can make ideas become great! So be nice to yourself and your ideas. And also: it is not a competition!
Apart from that I brought different methods, structures or recipes I can apply to improve my ideas.
All the exercises. We’ve been doing them here in Finland in groups. Also I found I completely new approach to magic and I’ve been at least ten times more creative than I was before the course.
The importance of constraints. Meaning creating around a set of predefined guidlines. Whether it’s time, story, prop, goal, or some other. You can allow yourself so much creative freedom, by simply creating a goal to work toward.
When you give yourself challenges with a set premise and time frame. You can come up with great stuff.
Bravery, in creating stuff and performing. New friends (didn’t actually bring them home). Inspiration. Psychological and structural methods.
The dozens of ideas for new routines and new perspectives on magic that I’m already doing.
Working with others is the way to build good magic quickly compared to working on your own.
It’s not always about the magic. And ypy can have an idea that begins from the story first.
Swedish “Lucia” is something that I need to experience at one point in my life.
Magic should be fun. If it isn’t you’re not doing it right.
Work quickly, set goals, and get on your feet immediately.
Ideas can come from anywhere and an idea is neither good or bad to begin with. It’s just an idea. It’s what you do with it.
The concrete tips, theories etc that I’ve learned and are applicable to my own work as a magician. Inspiration. Also the many new friends that I made during this course.
My notebook! Lol. And that actually may be true. I find reviewing my notes and our exercises great for stimulating creative thought. I feel I’ve just scratched the surface of what the course is offering me. Not until these concepts become automatic within me, and I begin to develop the so-called “language,” Tom described, will the benefits really be seen.
Det mest värdefulla är inte att vänta på den bästa iden utan att “göra”. Med hjälp av våran sceniska intelligens, våra trolleritekniska kunskaper och ödmjukhet kommer man långt!
Och att jobba är roligt!
That the creation process is more similar for most of us than we originally might have suspected. We’re not alone in this mad profession, rather we are colleagues that can only truly advance collectively.
That I can create magic, I can create it rapidly, and that I do not need to focus on originality, as it will occur as a side effect.
Do more time limited experiments. Have fun. Memorable moments.
Be your own best friend. Dont look down on yourself when thing dont go as you want. The trick that can not be explained was a hard excercise but an eye opener for me that I should keep a straight face what ever happendes.
Bunch of new tools that I can applied my own work. I think we will be doing those exercises here in Finland in our weekly meetings!
Do not work alone. Bounce your ideas and techniques with some one else!
(And structure and vectors just to mention two concrete things)
A better understanding of magic performances in general.
A better understanding of (mis-)directing the audience’s attention. (vectors!)
A better understanding of the power of theatre.
Wonderful memories.
Self-confidence as a performer.
Scripting the gaze. Just like I script my presentation and practice the technique, I should pay careful attention to my eyes and plan ahead where my gaze will be at each moment. Utilizing look, think, look, act also.
Cancelling. I’ve already made dramatic changes to my ACR thanks to this lesson.
Movement vectors.
ta hjälp av andra, jag ska öva med mask och filma för att förtydliga mitt kroppsspråk, jag ska ta regi det.
The exercises! I will be doing them with my magic buddies!
I need to make a list of all the techniques I learned about this week. And I need to review all the tricks in my repertoire from each viewpoint. I need to think about how could I apply that technique at each individual piece I do?
I need to speak less. I need to review my scripts. I need to take acting lessons. I need to go to a voice coach. I need to emphasise the important points in my performance.
And I also need to apply the crossing the gaze principle. Aldough we learned about this in the first course it did not hit me back then, but now I see how extremely strong this tool is.
A lot.
Energi, gaze handling and more.
