Extra events
There were a few extra events in the evenings.
• Intro to 3D-printing, with Micke Askernäs
• A Session with Horret Wu
• “Towards a mutual body of knowledge” session with the female participants.
• Open Stage performances
These extra events were good or bad? Too much or too little? Thoughts?

I enjoyed all of these sessions. I loved the hands-on aspect of the events, and they were a valuable component to the week. I liked how they were very different from the other lessons and added nice variety and more skills to put in our toolboxes.
Each extra session I felt I could gain something from, however i feel the open stage performance should have been limited to one act per person also with a time limit to prevent acts taking up too much time.
I think they were good, not at all too many. I think there were just few enough that I thought that I want to go and see every one of them. On the other hand I probably would have went to see one every night if there was an extra event every night.
So I guess I would like more of those, if that’s possible to arrange…
These were all really interesting and I understood how they all brought extra value and made sense when you looked at the learning objectives.
Micke’s lecture was instructive and gave me confidence to that it may be worth trying out 3D-printing and design in the future.
I know that Paulina talked to the female participants about her doctoral thesis. That lecture would most likely have been valuable to everyone at the course.
Open Stage: A couple of performers did the same thing at open stage as on the Saturday performances.
As listed above, with comments below each item:

A bit too long. We never got to see a product being made, finish.
A printed info sheet would have been very helpful.
Keep to 30 minutes and have another short subject too.• A Session with Horret Wu
Very cool. He took a step by step approach and was very learner oriented. This kind of presentation is quite helpful. Keep it!• “Towards a mutual body of knowledge” session with the female participants.
As I mentioned earlier, very important, very helpful and I would request it for every class.• Open Stage performances
Fun, open mike night is a great idea.
I liked the 3D printing and I’m glad it was the first night because my jetlag was really bad and I left early to go to bed…I would’ve been really disappointed for example if I had to miss Horret.
Of course Horret’s session was amazing and worthwhile. I already talked about the woman’s session earlier…and the talent show was fun! I might have liked maybe one night “off” to check out the city or just hang with our new friends.
They were all good. Perhpas we could have a bit more time to prepare our own bits. I felt that I wanted to practice more with the new colleagues, but run out of time and battery…
The extra events were excellent. It was a shame that Pauliina’s amazing research on Female Magicians wasn’t shared with the rest of the group as it was so interesting. I really look forward to reading her finished paper.
It was interesting to see that 3d printing doesn’t have only the use of illusions in magic, but in props as well. It felt great to see Horret appear as a teacher. That he explained everything in detail, because he knew there are people who don’t handle cards every day. I wish he’d teach us math as well.
I think the extra events add to the overall experience, and there was just the right amount of extra events. I feel that the 3D printing really added a relevant yet completely underexplored arena for magicians. Horret’s process was fascinating to follow, and the open stage performances were a lot of fun to watch.

It’s great. I like it when he really let someone try to design something. They are also many useful information that save us time to google and do researches.• A Session with Horret Wu
Could be better. Maybe letting people DO more.• “Towards a mutual body of knowledge” session with the female participants.
I have no idea.• Open Stage performances
Not what I imagine at first, but I enjoy quite a lot. Fritz is really a great MC.
– I enjoyed the 3D-printing event. My one critique is it went a little long with someone designing from scratch. Perhaps an overview of what it would look like would have been better.
– Horret’s lecture was so valuable. He taught in a way that showed the progression of a move and how one could adapt it immediately. Excellent event!
– I appreciate having the opportunity to meet with all the ladies of the workshop, but I feel a tad more structure would have helped. Perhaps one of us could volunteer to be a facilitator and help it be more productive.
– Open stage was great! I can never get enough magic performances.
It was perfect! I think the 3d-printing event could have been a little bit shorter. If he would have started the print when his presentation started, he could have ended with a person from the audience make something similar to the print and then shown the finished 3d-print. I think it would have been perfect. It was a very nice presentation!!!
In order to stay focused on my own learning of the concepts, I chose not to attend the extra events with the exception of the open stage performance. The open stage was a highlight of the week. I liked that we had the option to attend and I know that a lot of my peers found value in the additional resources.
It’s a pity that on Monday unfortunately the event was canceled but overall I loved those extra events. When was the special event for women, maybe I would do something for the men too.
I didn’t get much out of 3D-printing but it was definitely interesting to hear about the projects Micke has contributed to.
Horret’s lecture in itself was not what I had expected as I had set the bar quite high. His performance, though, was a great thing to watch.
The female event I wasn’t able to participate 🙁
Open stage as a show worked well as a whole – some acts we good and some not that good. Overall, Fritz handled it perfectly. It was also very pleasing to hear nice things about my performance from many of my heroes.
Perfect amount and relevance for us men.
They all were great. My favourites of these was 3D printing and I already got bunch of ideas where I could use that.
These were good. I wish there were even more of these extra events.
I enjoyed the extra events! Especially the open stage feels like a very important thing, where people can show what kind of magicians they are!
I liked all of the ones I took part in, which was everything but the one for the female participants. 3D printing was interesting, Micke is excellent. The making of the thimble in realtime was a cool idea, but didn’t come across as smooth as it could have been. Horret Wu was really nice, cool way to bring us along and following his process. Open stage is always interesting, and for me personally a really great opportunity to get practice, much appreciated. I also love to the see the other performers, their repertoire and stage personas.
Really good. Perfect lenght
I liked all of those. Even the days were already full of program (from 9am to 5pm) I think adding those extra events after dinner was great.
They were great! As I wrote I would have loved something additional on Monday night, as I thought was mentioned in the first schedule. Maybe for next year a course for pyrotechnics by Ottar Kraemer would be an option?
I enjoyed the extra events very much.
I was not familiar with 3D printing much, so this was a good introduction.
Horret was fantastic.
I am a big fan of the open stage, so this was a perfect way to have fun and try out new things.
Very good extra events. Horret Wu’s show was the best surprise. 3D-printing was so interesting, especially after the prop making class had made us think that we could really do stuff ourselves. It was just a tiny bit long maybe.
Open stage was fun as always. One negative thing about that was that I and some others could not perform even though we wanted to, and had prepared stuff. No problem about that if the venue was full and all, but then we saw many other performers on stage multiple times. That didn’t feel good, as it would have been important to get that kind of performing experience. I would suggest that in these kind of open stages everybody should have at least one slot if possible, and only if there is room after that some individuals could get a second performance.
Allmänt bra men jag har inte så mycket energi på kvällen efter en hel dags utbildning. Behåll detta dock!
“Towards a mutual body of knowledge” – I really wish I could hear those thoughts.
“A Session with Horret Wu” – Super interesting
“Open Stage performances” – great as usually
Good, personally i liked the 3D-printing a lot as I am starting in that field right now to build magic stuff
Yes, they were good in my opinion. Except of course I don’t know about that female thing. There could also have been some Ted talk event for everyone, with for example 20 min speeches
All were great editions to the course and provided variety to our evenings. But again I’m glad they were optional and there was no pressure to attend them after workshop hours.
Horret’s was particularly enjoyable. I liked the way he taught something and then performed a show for us to see his performance style. Really inspiring.
The only thing I have to say bad about the Women’s session was that there was a participant outside of the course attended. And although it’s great to have more women, I felt that there was a disconnect as this person was not on the course with us and also challenged the use of the meeting which I feel was inappropriate, particularly when they weren’t actually on the course.
I was ill the week before I arrived, so I had a lower energy level than usual. This meant I couldn’t participate in all the optional workshops and social activities I wanted to. I hope to have the opportunity to partake in these later on.”
3d printing i had to go to. An other idea is to hav e a practice course where we make an own object,
Open stage was great. A little sad that we lost the only family from the outside. Many it should be a collar with the town ? It could still be low key and maybe bring in some money for the courses.I did not participate in the WU or The female session.
Tycker alla var bra och lagom långa.
The extra events are great. I would happily attend an extra event each year. For example since it was great to hear the TED talks in our group, it would also be a great idea to do parts of the talks for all the groups one evening.
Underbart roligt. Angående öppen scen hörde jag åsikten att det vore givande att höra förutsättningar när ett arbete från kursen presenterades innan den visades.
Det andra var mästerligt
The two lectures were interesting but it is likely that one would have gotten more out of actually doing some 3D printing than just attend a talk about it. What Wu managed to explain very well was the process of exploring a technique.
Open stage is fun and gives an opportunity to see people from the other courses but it is too short and has too few “normal” spectators. I don’t know how one could make it “bigger” but it should stay as a part of the course.
I think they are very well suited for the classes and the week.
