What in the course is important to keep, and what is important to change?
Comments
It is important to keep the structure, collaboration aspect, and teachings in the course. I also would keep and continue to work on the diversity of the magicians in the program.
För mig är allt viktigt.
Kanske ta med något om scenografi?
Hur att göra smågrupps-indelningen i grupp A.
Det som Dozzie gjorde med gitarrerna (var det 1?) som hoppade fram och åter var intressant. Sådant vore kul att lära sig. Även det som verkar kallas “black art”.
I felt each element of the course was valuable, although with the lecture on 3D printing it maybe an idea to allow more people to try 3D modelling on a computer and make their own custom thimble or thumb tip.
Very good and insightful lessons should be kept, I would only add more practical examples of what has just been gone over.
Can’t really come up with anything to take away or to add – looking forward to B group to dive deeper.
1. Review the order of presentation with an eye on building to a definable conclusion.
2. Clarify the goal of a performance using the presented skills
a. Consider an opening performance for comparison
i. Just don’t know where to fit it in???
3. A larger venue for the Makers day
4. Use paper handouts or a website with printable documents
The course with Haken wasnt that valuable in my opinion. There was a lot of confusion surrounding what he was doing, especially at the beginning and it was uncomfortable. Maybe if it was explained better it would’ve been better, but it wasn’t and it was weird.
I mentioned that I loved prop making with Tim, but maybe having an assistant would be helpful.
The course is about the right length, but I personally should have taken a few days either side to see Sweden.
Whilst we were busy for the whole week I would have liked just one evening/afternoon to have gone for a group walk and learnt something about the area.
I would have liked a certificate of attendance
I would love to go somewhere performing with other fellow magicians. (Walk around)
If the course were longer, let’s say 14 days, that would be the absolute. Of course, we cant expect the lecturers to work everyday with us for 14 days with a little time for their private lives. Maybe inviting more lecturers from all over the world would make it different. Im not saying better. Different. Also the fact that we as the students have only been charge for the accommodation is crazy. I believe a lot of the participants would love to support the lecturers if not financially then in other ways too
I would keep most of the course. I might clarify and apply more in our own preexisting routines/ routines we invented in the class the parts about projecting and receiving (stick throwing). I felt that they were beneficial, but we might not have fully incorporated them.
The exercises where read the script with different focuses could have been more valuable if we had more chances of reading and playing around with the lines and having less focus on watching others read their lines. Whilst I entirely feel that watching others perform is good, I think in that exercise there was too much watching and not enough doing. Also, since we had to switch around the characters between each take, a lot of the focus just went into figuring out which lines were for you, and there was less focus to spare on the actual task at hand. Perhaps part of this exercise could be done in smaller groups where you just get to try out the lines in different ways fast, and then each group would get to show one variation etc.
FIKA is much more important than I expected. Sometimes telling people how you feel and what you think during the break is very helpful in the group exercises.
I think Ive talked about this already.
The flow of the week feels very
fine-tuned. I wouldn’t change anything. I experienced the perfect balance of time alone to process concepts, time performing, time coming up with performances, time meeting my instructors, time working with my peers, and time eating.
I would, for sure keep the instructors and maybe I would add one more day.
Definitely the things I mentioned in the previous question should be kept. The bit with coins across could be different as for me it was quite obvious that you can do things differently than in the past – that’s what all my material consists of. There could also be more time to work on the final performance piece as most of the Finns stayed up all night in the church 🙂
Keep: fikas, available time for own work, practical “hantverk”.
Improve: better chance to work on own act and decide a partner for cooperation instead of being on free hand.
It was so good, so hard to say.
One idea for Leif´s acting exercises: It would be great if we can get texts beforehand so we can learn it in home. Now some exercises with a text were a little bit difficult as I needed to read it from the paper.
Keep Tim and his segment, if possible. It added an amazing ingredient to this whole experience. I did however miss to have more lessons with Tom and Leif, of course this was because we now had Tim as a teacher as well. So I guess the only way to solve the problem would be to make the course longer. 🙂
In general, I think the disposition of time could be more thought through. And I’m mostly thinking about the day for all the performances. If there would be a way to solve the time limit somehow, so that people can show what they want to show instead of looking for ways to cut their ideas short. It’s not ideal to split the group into smaller ones. But maybe there’s a way for making things a bit more fluent in regards of the disposition.
It’s important to keep the Fika.
Maybe in the group exercises you can create a routine for one magician to demonstrate. Thus the creation would have more “real life” use, than if it’s designed for multiple people to perform.
Keep prop making, keep magic theory and applications, keep acting. See if there is a way to apply some kind of formula to make us slightly better as actors quicker, perhaps through more direct feedback and directions. Perhaps the possibility for a one-to-one tips and tricks, like coaching? Just some thoughts.
Thinking if it could be shorter performance at the open stage. Maximum 5 minutes, whould be better.
Keep the place, the teachers, the fika and food,.. the environment is important. With no disturbing thing around you you can focus 100% all the time. Keep the structure of the workshops and evening lessons.
Change something, so that same people can attend the courses again and again and again. Or don’t change it, I think it’s a good thing to remind yourself about those lessons every year or two.
The now 6 day course should stay as it is now. But I felt the Saturday with the final performances was rushed and not satisfying at all. Only parts of the students attended the performances, some didn’t care, some went out to eat/drink and some prepared their own performance. And from 40+ people I only got 2 feedbacks. No feedback at all from the instructors. I really, really would like to have some feedback from Tom and Leif. It seems like they don’t care about what and how I perform and how I could get better. I know it’s probably not true, but that’s the way I feel like.
The course hours feel most important. The other things could be moved around, toyed with, swapped in or out for other things, etc. if there were other ideas to try.
To keep: Fika of course. The prop-making class.
To change: The documentation can be shorter.
The content of The Trick Cannot Be Explained can have more variety.
It is important to keep the venue, fikas and food. That is a big part in making this course as nice it is, and leave room to only focus on the magic. I also liked that we did just a little bit more work with our own material than last year. I would not change really anything major at this point.
Jag tycker att upplägget är väldigt bra. Det man möjligtvis kan lägga till är feedback inom grupperna. Att man har en dag där de som vill visar sin akt och får feedback av gruppen på det de önskar.
Well, I would say nothing. But I know that it is not very helpful…
So if I come up with something, I will let you know.
Keep the excersises
Might change propmaking so we can be able to bring our own things and get help from en expert how to do things.
important to keep: solo exercise, last day performance, ted talks, “special quest lectures”
important to change: more time for own work,
I believe it’s important to have a tutor with every course (A, B and C) for the initial session.
I really liked the 90 minute sessions.
I believe conjuring C might benefit from having more time to work on their own projects and integrate the tools into them across the week so that when they leave they have a solid piece of work. It’s almost like the culmination of all three courses and years participating in the conjuring courses. Maybe!
Change: the rooms was cold some days. Thought it was me that was sick but heard more people were saying that. Lived in the building behind the church. And also please change the weather.
Maybe Friday night should be the showing off part ?Keep: Fika is a great social thing.
Det jag skrivit om tillverkning (om det är möjligt) skulle jag vilja ändra. Vet inte om man kan få in lite annat på onsdagen så att hjärnan orkar. Annars så vill jag inte ha några ändringar fortsätta med det ni gör.
I think the course is great the way it is. I loved that now it was one day longer than last year. Maybe it would be a good idea to have an intermission during the final performances.
Sista dagens redovisning.
I can’t think of anything that is more important to keep than anything else.
Due to how the courses been done before there was no problem with Tim’s class this year. But in the future, since all courses did more or less the same things, many of the people in next years B and C course has already done what was made this year. So this part will have to change.
