Future
What are my wishes and desires for the future, in the context of this education? What would a good next step be?
Comments
I would say I would want to continue to hone my understanding of the structure of a magic routine and how magic routines can grow into something bigger than itself. I will eventually want to take my magic away from the safe spaces where magic is welcomed, and bring it into other territories where I think it could thrive. Maybe a good next step could be applying magic in the realm of other art forms and being more attuned to how these other art forms can entertain my knowledge of magic? After-all, why is magic not really mainstream? There must be something the other arts are doing that we as a magic community are lacking.
Att kurserna fortsätter erbjudas.
Bra pris.
Jag tänker att ‘samman-hängandet’, att så många med delas passion möts är mycket viktig. Att dela erfarenhet, kunskap.
Att kunna se 43 akter på typ 3.5 timme är ett mirakel.
I would love to see the possibility of getting a qualification even at a low level.
Maybe more teachers? I really liked that the teachers were different kind of magicians. I would roughly put the in three boxes (in a good and gentle way): theater magician, actor magician and a prop maker magician. Each had their own perspective and standpoint.
Maybe there could be like a corporate type of magician who would teach stuff like magic and business.
Longer and more in depth courses?
There is so much more to learn. I would like to attend session B and ultimately session C.
Before I can think outside of the box, I need to understand the nature of the box.
I’m looking forward to how Conjuring B is going to push me. Again, I dont know what a good next step is, because I never imagined this was the first step. I enjoyed magic theory a lot…I love learning theory and talking theory, even if its not the same as my opinion / theory I subscribe to. So I would ask for more of that, maybe more discussion on that, leaving room to discuss theory. I know my mentor and I have gone back and forth on theory a lot in performance…and I enjoy those discussions. ESPECIALLY with magicians from around the world…it would be nice to talk to other people, which we did a bit (other than castle people). And we did that a bit on the last day prepping for our final performance.
I could lecture about the history of women magicians to all, not only for women. I have experienced some biased opinions from some male magicians, so it would be very important to educate them more.
I am hoping to do conjuring B next year. I would like a certificate of Achievement. In the UK the exam board AQA produces courses bases on peoples skill levels and you can get a recognised award. This can be from a very simple level up to degree level. Because the course is so well laid out and achieves its aims I don’t think there would be a problem to get a recognised award , just at what level?
As mentioned in the last question. More lecturers. More insight from different minds. More opinions
I believe the exercises we did were in many ways a brief introduction into using these methods and tools for cerating new magic. We have started applying these exercises back home with a group of magicians. We also give strict time limits and themes for coming up with new magic. I feel that doing these exercises over and over is when we really get to feel the full benefit of them.
I’ve also thought thoroughly about how to apply the knowledge learnt into my own work. As there is so much to apply, I think I will apply the work into each new (or old) thing I’m working on currently. I start with the material I’m anyways going to be focusing and then going to the knowledge gained at Conjuring. That way the new knowledge won’t become overwhelming.
I think the part of the course that I will use as a starting point in my own work is the part about building an act. Also the ebook Tom shared will be key in this.
To apply all the things I learned from the course to my own work.
To keep in touch with the classmates and help each other.
I don’t think anything necessarily needs to be changed, but maybe adjusted. The women’s’ group just needed a facilitator, Håkan’s needed to be more defined, and I would maybe add a writing exercise. By a writing exercise, I mean actually write something down and maybe the writer has to perform it (whatever shape that might be) or someone else has to interpret and perform it.
I have already written about what I would have wished for me. Not sure its the best way to go for course though. Thank you so so much for having this course. It’s been a dream of mine to go to something like this for many many years!
Every magician who walks away from this class will have tools that they can
apply to their work for life. I would hope that every working magician have the chance to take this class. A good next step might be to offer it multiple times a year.
To maybe do a longer course, to go in the things more in depth, and try to more exercise them.
A longer course would definitely make me consider moving to Sweden. Looking forward to that! And before that, the Course C! And in Finland we’re doing same kinds of retreats in the same Finnish group that was in Conjuring as well.
Perhaps an extended course.
More of this! I would like to have a longer course.
I’d love to work with even more guest teachers. It was a great idea to add Håkan with a small lesson of his own. If we could bring more great performers, and it doesn’t have to be magicians, that could hold small lessons of something they find important – it would’ve been amazing. And I imagine it would also put off a lot of steam on the main teachers, so the agenda won’t be as much of a rush for them.
It would be nice to have a longer course.
It would also be nice to study the history of magic.
I would really like to be part of the C course. 🙂
Lessons with Tim. For example to handle Loops
I hope this educations stays and developes. There is a great need for this kind of studying for magicians, professionals and hobbyists. I hope I could take part to this educations once in a while and learn new things to improve my skills with. This educations (courses A,B,C) is great thing to get started and after that you can work better by yourself and with your colleagues. But still I would hope to come to learn new things after course C.
More personal feedback from the instructors. Maybe there would be a possibility (maybe between kl 17 and 18) when all of the students – if they wish – could have their 15 minutes to perform something they are working on to the instructors? And get personal feedback.
Talking about desires for the future: Maybe this could be Conjuring D? A week to work on your own material with the support of the instructors and the other students? I would sign up for Conjuring D in 2025 right now.
My wish is to continue having these inspirational gatherings where we can work together and develop material.
I think to have a basic understanding of lights, music, and stage management. Also, some basic improv or basic comedy might be useful. Maybe some homework prior to coming to the course. Suggestions for literature or videos from Mystique, Slydini, etc.
Could this same model of education be brought to other countries or communities? Could there be a curriculum that could be used to do this somewhere also in addition to this course?
Det måste jag fundera på
Please prepare a D course 😀
Next year I will go to the C and I wish I can go further.
I want to come back next year
D course which focuses almost completely for own work
Personally, I am very sad that my time at a conjuring has come to an end. I understand it is impossible to run a forth course in conjunction with the others. But perhaps maybe, conjuring c could be available to all participants who have already reached that level and the next year coming up? As there were only 10 participants on the course this year, this would be a way to fill up the course fully perhaps.
Conjuring C might then work better if the course was more designed around working on each individuals own acts. So that once you reach this level anyone can continue to join if the space is available.
I don’t know. You can never be finished, so I think a lot of the theory you can learn again and again.
For the school. What about doing an online course that you can pay for with tasks up until the school.
I am just lucky it is possible to come back. What you are building is a community. And the community should meet. Sooo. Maybe you should have an own price to give out. The Tom Stone price. Given to one person or student that show an act that includes an interesting or good use of the theory of magic.
Ett sätt att ses efter c kursen kommande år och jobba utifrån det vi lärt oss under kurserna.
It would be great to have a book or booklet about the principles we have learnt during the A, B, C courses. It would be great to be able to re read those sometimes.

How to not only build an act but how to string acts together to a performance. To have an act exploring false solutions as act number two or three in a longer performance is one thing that was mentioned this year, but what else is there to think about when performing several acts.
How is music to be incorporated in an act, lighting tips, what about sound systems and doing a silent vs a talking act.
