Future
What are my wishes and desires for the future, in the context of this education? What would a good next step be?
Comments
Does it make sense to merge the concepts with the theory of Ascanio? I am thinking especially of crossing the gaze and in transit actions. There will probably much more but I am not really an expert at Ascanio. Scriptwriting could be more detailed. Finding and developing the own stage persona could be a workshop of its own.
My next step is obvious. Try to apply my experience to my current set of tricks. Then try to create my own pieces to put into my act. And, I will be back for Conjuring B. Now that I know what your course is like, I will have some magic to work on when I return. My goal is to return, but I want it to be clear I’ve changed how I perform based on what I’ve learned.
I would like to come back and attend every course that is available, the value and community around the course is seconded to none.
How to build a story, and a meaning with the trick.
More acting and voicetraining. How to treat and handle audience participations on and off the stage.
I would like to come back next year, maybe in Group B, and I hope to pick up where we left off and continue from there.
For me: practice the skills learned. Not just in Magic and misdirection, but the other skills I want to incorporate to the magic. I want to return and it must be with a different perspective. I have a year to work in improvement. Also a good step is to share this knowledge with friends back home. To work with this friends and maybe other magicians like what they are looking and could ask. For the workshops: I would love to see one day the Magie Nouvelle workshop that was cancelled some years ago.
My primary wish for the future, in the context of this education, is simple yet profound: I want more of it. The experience has been so transformative and enriching that I find myself eager to continue this journey of growth and learning.
The current structure of the course (a, b, c, and then exploring the act) is excellent, but I already feel a sense of loss knowing that it will come to an end. This speaks volumes about the quality and impact of the education provided.
Ideally, I would love to have the opportunity to come back every year. The magic world is vast and ever-evolving, and I believe there’s always more to learn, refine, and explore. Each return would likely bring new insights, as I’d be approaching the material with more experience and a different perspective each time.
A dream scenario would be the creation of an advanced or continuing education program – a course that one could take every summer for as long as they want to. This could involve:
Advanced techniques building on the foundational principles
Deep dives into specialized areas of magic
Master classes with rotating guest instructors
Opportunities to collaborate on creating new material
Workshops on the business and marketing aspects of a magic career
Such a program would allow for continuous growth and provide a platform for magicians at various stages of their careers to come together, learn, and innovate. In the meantime, a good next step for me would be to fully implement what I’ve learned from this course into my performances and continue to practice and refine these skills. I also plan to stay connected with the network I’ve built during this week, perhaps organizing informal meetups or online sessions to continue our collective learning journey.
Ultimately, my experience with this course has ignited a passion for continuous improvement and learning in the art of magic. Whether through formal continuing education or self-directed study, I’m committed to building upon the strong foundation this course has provided. The next step is to take what I’ve learned and use it as a springboard for further growth and exploration in this fascinating field
To make the course a few days longer where you have more time to take in all the new things you learnt. Maybe have some more “analytical” segments where you watch worldclass performers perform in magic (or other fields) and then discuss what is good and less good. What can you learn from that performer, etc.
For me the next step would be to practice and implement what I learned in weekly shows at the castle.
The next challenge will likely be how to manage the high level of interest in the course. On one hand, you don’t want the group to become too large, but on the other hand, you don’t want to turn people away and want to maintain continuity. Perhaps setting up two courses titled “Exploring the Act” could be a solution?
I find that very hard to tell after one week.
I can’t wait for course b next year. I want more- that’s my one big thing. One extra 90 minutes of class a day. Or one extra week of the course. I am hungry for more.
I think a good next step would be to spend time on scripting a routine. Giving a good understanding of formatting and prompts and editing. This could be followed by the presentation of a scripted routine and subsequent comments by the group. I see this training as leading to a conclusion — a presentation. Demonstrating the elements taught in the class and listing them for each routine.
(in the context of education) 😉 I would like to spend more time really perfecting one or two things. For example, tossing the ball over the head, etc….something like that. I feel like I still “dont get it / have it”.
I guess, I am in the middle now, so I would simply like to keep on.
Let’s go DEEEEEPER!
education where you can get bachelor or masters degree
It would be nice to have a class on creating a character. Something new and out of comfort zones. Perhaps some exercises early in the week to build a foundation of the character and then actually performing as that being toward the latter days of the course.
I think it’s all wonderful and based on what I heard from the C group members, it will be amazing as well. Looking forward to next year!
Keep it as small as it is right now. Makes the participants become a family
I would love to see some kind of further qualification to be obtained from the course
I’m going to be getting help at home with card techniques, but would like to expand on magic directorship. Maybe a room with a big mirror for a lecture room so we can really see ourselves or a instant video replay to allow us to do our own instant critic.
A longer course. More opportunity to develop and show the results of the exercises. For example if there was an additional show called: “Best of: Conjuring A/B/C” that would be fun.
I am looking forward to a whole program in the university. I would highly consider living in Sweden for the period of studying magic in the university. Other than that, moving these courses abroad could be a great next step. If you ever plan to do that, Finland is interested!
Purely out of egoistic thinking, I wouldn’t want to change too much. It is because I have a normal day job as well, and it is hard to get away too long from family and work to indulge in the art of magic. So I like the week-long setup. If I were to think out of the box however, these are some inputs I could share:
You now have course A-C and the “exploring the act”. I believe the interest and group of students have grown over the years, and I would think of a way to build on that momentum. Exploring the act is a good way to allow for returning students: you can always bring a new act next year. With the current setup you might get a problem with finding the right teachers. I could however think of having multiple groups of students doing “exploring the act”. Perhaps it is doable to have “workshop facilitators” instead of teachers and by that running multiple groups. A lot of the benefits come from getting together, having certain aspects or topics to discuss related to the acts and then have the participants actually do the hard work. But allowing yourself to be surrounded by peers, the other tutors and just work could greatly benefit magicians around the world. Workshop facilitators should hopefully be easier to scout than teachers. Even I could probably facilitate that type of work with some guidance. By doing so you can potentially fit another class next year, a small but important upscale.
Other potential topics could also be incorporated as a next step. I’m thinking of topics like: building a family show (structure, knowing your audiences, different ages, how to interact with kids, etc), building a trade show/corporate act (story-telling, approach, clients, venues) or audience and crowd management, and perhaps the business side of show business (basic sales training). It is a bit beyond the foundation of the current course and might not fit, but I believe the topics would feel close to heart for many of the performing magicians. And again, use the collaborative and safe environment to share, expand the global knowledge and grow.
Obviously it is already top of mind, but it would be interesting to see how this could scale even more: longer duration (weeks->months->semesters), more in-depth exercises and theoretical topics, building more and adding multiple layers, reading and studying. Again, me with the day job wouldn’t want such an upscale to disrupt this weeklong course, which I think is really great! But I believe it would be a great source for magicians to grow and develop their craft and a contribution to the art of magic in general.
Additional courses that are relevant for our craft. Basic lighting and music, use of black art, customize clothing, a sign-up class for those interested in sleight of hand/manipulation. Look at other acts and provide positive feedback as a judge in a competition. Make the courses longer.
I wish to be more conscious about my artistic decisions I wish to have more tools to rely on when creating an effect.
I really hope it continues. It is really important education for the magicians. And as I said, I cant wish for more. The course is so well put together. It offers a lot for people who are willing to put their time and effort to it.
Don’t limit the number of students for exploring the act. Why not bring in more people from the performing arts as teachers? And again: Carisa Hendrix would be a great addition to the teaching team.
