What would you say to someone who is hesitant to sign up for this workshop?
Comments
This was probably my best experience in magic in 40 years. I am looking forward to next year.
I don’t know where it would fit in the course, because this isn’t what the course is really about, but I think it might be fun to have a class on some sleights. These could be cards, coins, pens, topit, balls, sleeving etc… To someone who is hesitant to come: this magic education is the best you can get for what you pay. It’s 12 hours a day learning magic, seeing magic and being with magicians. I spent less going to this course than I did going to Magifest. Even though a convention is fun, I really didn’t learn anything.
Information beforehand could be little better or made more easily to access. I was kind of hoping for e-mail that had all the key information. Your are in course A, bring this, this is your schedule for a week, ect. Now i had to look it around from website and facebook. Could be handy if it would be all in one e-mail. For someone hesitant, I would say: just jump in, It will be fun, you learn lot from magic and performing, there is a great atmosphere and all people are really nice. You’ll have a great week!
I’d say sign up and don’t look back , you won’t regret it!
I would say that it’s definitely worth it. You’re not only learning methods but everything around it that creates a real magical experience.
Daily I read how magician reaching out with question on how to build their akt and solve problems. Questions the would be able to work with in this course. Witch also will provide the tools to self-improve their craft.
It is a very beautiful and formative experience. You will not regret it. Sign up now.
For someone who is hesitant: Do it, go to Sigtuna. I have learned a lot of people are hesitant. Everybody feels kind of unconfortable, is part of the Workshop. The idea is to push boundaries, to take ourselves out of our comfort zone. Avner the Eccentric says the goal is not to push you out of your comfort zone, but to increase it. We could be affraid of the workshop, but here, you see is not so difficult, the comfort zone is expanding. Everybody is so friendly, you can talk about books, techniques and things yor regularly don’t talk at your local club. There are so talented people, some are musicians, some are actors. There are FISM winners or El Escorial attendants and they aren’t showing off. Everybody is an equal peer. Everybody shares. Don’t be hesitant as I was. You would say “Why had I not done it before?”
If I haven’t made myself clear in the earlier responses – I absolutely loved my time at Sigtuna. This workshop was a transformative experience that exceeded my expectations in numerous ways.
For anyone wondering whether they should come, my advice is simple and emphatic: just do it!
Here’s why:
Intensity of Learning: You will experience so many new things in a single week, it’s breathtaking – in the best possible way. The amount of knowledge and skills you’ll gain is incredible.
Personal Growth: Yes, you will feel uncomfortable at times – but we all do. This discomfort is a sign of growth. You’ll be pushed out of your comfort zone, but in doing so, you’ll discover capabilities you didn’t know you had.
Self-Improvement: Not only will the instructors challenge you, but you’ll also find yourself pushing to be the best possible version of yourself. This internal motivation is incredibly powerful and lasting.
Supportive Environment: Despite the challenges, you’re surrounded by like-minded individuals who are on the same journey. The camaraderie and mutual support are invaluable.
Expert Instruction: The quality of teaching is top-notch. You’re learning from true masters of the craft who are invested in your growth.
Holistic Approach: This isn’t just about learning tricks. It’s about developing as a performer, an artist, and a person.
Networking: The connections you make during this week can last a lifetime and prove invaluable in your magical journey.
Inspiration: You’ll leave the workshop filled with new ideas, renewed passion, and a clear direction for your growth in magic.
Yes, it’s intense. Yes, it’s challenging. But these are precisely the reasons why it’s so rewarding. You’ll surprise yourself with how much you can learn and grow in just one week. For those hesitating due to doubts about their skill level or experience – don’t. The course is designed to meet you where you are and help you progress from there. Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced, you’ll find value in this workshop.
In conclusion, this workshop at Sigtuna is more than just a learning experience – it’s a journey of self-discovery and artistic growth. It’s an investment in yourself and your passion for magic. If you have the opportunity to attend, seize it. The memories, skills, and connections you’ll gain are priceless. It’s an experience that will not only improve your magic but also enrich your life
I’d say you wouldn’t regret it. You´ll make new friends from all over the world, literally. The same passion and the friendly environment among all participants and teachers make everything so good! I would say, after attending the A-course I now definitely want to attend the B-course!
Just do it. We will be there together. Another point is that Tom mentioned he might be looking for someone for “Exploring the Act” and that he’s always on the lookout for female workshop leaders. I can recommend Michelle Spillner from Germany. She’s the editor-in-chief of the German magic magazine Magie, was vice president of the MZvD, an excellent magician, and she’s directed several competition acts here in Germany, especially in the close-up category.
Not all magicians that I know would like to invest in the skills, that you will learn in this course. Most magicians that I know just want to do and learn tricks. I liked very much to meet magicians who think otherwise and do love to invest in the storytelling part and the presentation.
Jag var sugen på att deltaga förra året men kände mig lite rädd. Rädslan byggde på osäkerhet som ledde till negativa tankar. Därför är jag superglad över att jag fick vara med.
I would say DO IT! DO IT DO IT DO IT! Well, just as long as it doesn’t take away my spot in the course! I understand why people get hooked and why the smile happily whenever they talk about the course.
It would depend on why they hesitate. I they think it is too difficult, I would share my experiences and encourage them to see it a wonderful challenge. If it is because they think they are not ready yet, or don’t know enough magic, I might agree with them and encourage them to learn more and go next year. or I might ask how far they want to go in magic. if it is occasional tricks for their grand kids, i might discourage them from going, however someone with potential skills and a drive would get the “pot of gold” sales pitch.
Do it! You are very well taken care of. I was quite nervous first time, even if I knew some people. I you feel unsecure – join magic shows and gatherings and expand your network
I cant think of anything off the top of my head. But if I do, I’ll let you know.
Thanks a lot for organicing this. Since there are no official magic institutes providing education, this is very valuable what you are doing.
Thank you!
Thank you for having me! It’s an honor to work with everyone in Sigtuna!
Just do it, you won’t regret it! The value you get will completely change your thinking in magical performing arts and will help you grow so much more so much faster.
You will get to hang out with other magicians
While I understand that there are few women in magic and I am in support of more women being apart of the course and taking up magic as well. However I feel the evening course that bars men from being able to attend and if exclusively for women is simply reversing the role to what was agreed to be wrong to start with. as magic used to be exclusive to men and was of course decided to be wrong, but changing the genders and having a lecture exclusively for women isn’t equal but instead is just reversing the gender of those that are and or aren’t discriminated.
The confidence and thought processes gained in this week last much longer and the friendships will last a lifetime. It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with/alongside amazing people who are also magicians.
9:00 for morning class is suitable. 🙂
You won’t believe how much more this is compared to a regular magic convention. This is an absolute game-changer that will change the way you see, think, study, perform and discuss magic. This is an life-changing experience.
Don’t hesitate! 🙂 It is a great experience. And to quote another student: I rather pay for spending a full week with fellow students, getting to practice and learn, than spending it on a few days convention with a handful of lectures and sessions somewhere. This is the next level!
If you want to get inspired by others, learn new elements to improve your magic (no tricks!), and want to push yourself artistically, then signing up for the Conjuring Course is a must!
I would say that this is probably the best investment in your art and carrier.
GO! And be fast, before the next course is full. Thank you Tom, Leif and others.. keeping this course alive is so valuable for the magic association in general. Thank you that I have got the chance to be part of this.
I heard some negative comments about the propmaking class. Okay, it wasn’t as classy as last year. But from Oskar I have learnt stuff I can and will actually use. And I don’t like how the whole feedback process is defined. I understand your point, Tom. You want to protect people’s feelings. Okay. But I need feedback, I need input, I need critique. I rather have 9 negative comments and one really clever one than no feedback at all. Please, Tom, help us getting feedback!
Just do it.
