I have found unexpected bonus value beyond the stated learning objectives.
1: I do not agree at all / 10: I agree completely
I know my magic is going to improve in leaps and bounds. It already has.
The value of the lessons went far beyond my expectations. It appears to me that the bonus value consists of a renewed vitality and increased energy in my practice of magic. Nearly all my daily thoughts are interrupted with memories of the lessons and how to apply them. I suppose another bonus is the amount of gratitude and joy I feel for being fortunate enough to attend these classes.
Tom Stone created an open and collegial atmosphere that really fostered collaboration and creativity.
The real bonus for me was the insight gained into the creative process of working with others. We achieved so much more than I thought was possible. Normally magic is an isolating practice, but the course really opened my eyes to the benefits of working with others.
The content was intensive and discovered new skills in myself and working with others that I wasn’t expecting to learn.
Most notably working with fellow magicians and establishing friendships beyond the course. I also look forward to follow up discussions of out work beyond the course.
* I met new wonderful people. * I learnt the value of working in a group and bouncing ideas off of each other. * I learnt that it can be better to just force yourself to start working, setting a deadline and seeing what happens. I experienced this produce more interesting results than times when I’ve spent days thinking about an idea. * I learnt the benefit of videoing performances for solo feedback. * Most importantly I was incredibly inspired. Since the course ended (2 days ago) I’ve set myself a personal goal (within magic) and have begun work towards that.
I knew this was not a course on which I would “learn new tricks”. However, I did! By learning a brand new effect as part of the exercises on Day Two, and having focused time on Day Three to refine it and develop it, I did come away with a new piece that I can now work on. I had no previous experience of presenting magic as part of a group of three or four people on stage together. I did this several times during the course and really enjoyed it. I want to perform more now as part of an ensemble of like-minded magicians, with a shared interest in theatrical performance. I didn’t expect this. The course has helped me to shift some things which I ‘knew’ in my head, to a more embodied way of ‘knowing’ them. For example, I ‘knew’ that the magic effect is only one part of the performance: more important is how the effect makes the audience members *feel*. Know I know that in a very different way: from experiencing this for myself in observing other magician’s pieces, and from focusing explicitly on the emotional content of my own magic and seeing the response it got from those watching.
Most workshops are ideas that are very difficult to apply or to experiment with. The hands-on approach helped everyone to be more creative and be comfortable trying new experiments.
I learned a lot more than expected from group activity/challanges.
The nuances and subtleties in the lecture beyond what was stated gave momenter value.
Många idéer uppkom som gjort att jag kunnat förbättra befintliga rutiner.
The extra value of working with a group of like-minded students gave me new perspectives, and I keep in touch with my fellow students even after. Thus I also got an informal brainstorming group I trust.
Man fick väldigt mycket mer än vad jag själv hade räknat med. Just hur man ska tänka, öva och testa saker.
Taking part in the workshop has given me the opportunity to continue working with others after the cpurse as strong connections were made in the process of working closely with each other over the 3 days. Also from the workshops I continued working on a piece of magic I performed on the 3rd day and it gave me the confidence to perform it at an actual event within a 2 months of taking part in the workshop.
Every day in the old routines I find things I improve thanks to the course
The course gave me a new set of terms and words to describe things I have never before been able to discuss with fellow performers effectively.
Jag fick ett mycket stärkt självförtroende och väldigt god kontakt med alla andra kursdeltagare
